Ethan's 3rd Birthday Party

Ethan's 3rd birthday party was held on a lovely Saturday afternoon. The weather was fantastic and we were outside pretty much all day.

We got a "Spider Man" bouncy castle in which was great for keeping the kids busy, though I wouldn't recommend it later in the year when it gets hotter. We also hired a snow cone machine that everyone enjoyed too (which I would recommend later in the year!).

Thanks to everybody who came: it turned out to be really nice and went really well.

Tummy Bug

Ethan hasn't been sick (in the throw-up sense) since before I moved out here. So it was a little surprising when he threw up at about 6:30 on Thursday evening.

Poor kid didn't know what was going on. He probably couldn't remember the last time it happened!

That night I slept on the couch with him sleeping on the smaller one so I could be close in case it happened again, and it did: several times.

On Friday we took him so the doctor who said it's just a tummy bug and he probably won't throw up again, but the diarrhea might last a bit longer. So there's nothing to worry about!

Funny thing is, he's such a cheerful kid normally that even while he's being sick he's still smiling. After one of the episodes I was cleaning up the mess and he was standing watching, tears still on his face and his little body shaking like you do after throw in up, and he just looked at me and said ,"Daddy, I'm so happy!".

I love that one!

Ethan's vocabulary is coming on really fast now. Every day he seems to have a new word or understands a new concept. This evening I was out in the back yard with him chopping up branches that we'd trimmed from the trees out back, when it quickly got dark.

Ethan said "It's got Dark, Daddy!"

I concurred.

Then he said, "That means it's time to go sleep".

I don't think I've heard him use the word 'means' before or anything like it.

Earlier in the day he asked where Mommy was. I told him she was in the bedroom on the phone, to which he replied, "I want to see her". First time I've heard him use 'her' or anything like it. Normally he'd have said, "I want to see Mommy".

He's definitely learning!

Happy Birthday Ethan!

Yep, he's 3 today.

Now, the Terrible Two's started bang on his second birthday, so here's hoping that they finish bang on the 3rd! However, we know it won't happen quite like that. :)

While today is his real birthday, we're building him up more for his party this Saturday. We'll definitely be posting loads of pictures of that once all is done.

Where's my want?

Hello, and welcome to Ethan B's world. This is a blog on which Melanie and I will post about things Ethan is up to at the moment so those who live far away can keep a track of him.

The title of this post is one of Ethan's favourite phrases at the moment, and as with many of his musings we're having trouble figuring out exactly what this means. He appears to use it when he wants something, but doesn't seem to know what it it. Quite a problem I'm sure for a such a little person to deal with so early on in life!

Oh, and the other news is Ethan's upcoming birthday. 3 on Monday! We're having the party on the 31st though, of which I will of course post photos.

Anyway, more later!
